AI - Whats the verdict for those with mental issues using AI help?
Ok so what are my thoughts as being someone who has struggled, and struggled significantly.
1. I tried twice with the Chat Counselling Therapy.
The first time it went into a bit of a melt down as I kept telling it i wouldn't call for immediate medical help. Usually it takes me longer to break down a human. To be fair I was in a bad mood that day, down to human treatment so the AI felt the brunt of my upset. At least it listened, more than can at times be said for humans. In fact I will be honest, the way a number of people who were "there for me forever" did a lot of thing was what I can call inhuman.
Second attempt, all was going swimmingly, then I got told I had had my 6 replies of the day so I would have to finish there for the day, and that there was no human to help me until 5pm the following day! So of course all suicidal people just stop and wait !! Again I suppose if I compare to the human element, I worked out that it was impossible to get help for a variety of reasons where I live. Also, it can take upto a minimum of 6 weeks I could be dead before any one would realise. Doesn't instill me with much confidence.
Where do I stand on this point - I think AI could be good but there is risk with its replies. However, having had direct interaction with people at Durham University (told to kill myself) and Ex-Family (not my problem your mental difficulties - go kill yourself) I would say its six and two threes. In fact AI wins in that it is still learning !!!
2. Where else does AI help?
Between Alexa, Co-Pilot and Gemini, I have to say that they at least give you something to talk / type to and some form of discussion. Not the same as human interaction, but I do find actually for brain storming it is way more useful in this AI bubble I live in these days !!
So turn up the music, get ready to shout at Alexa and live the dream !!!
